So the great benefit of shopping with these big box stores that flourish throughout the U.S. is that you get what you want at a cheap price. These companies help define trends and set the direction for consumer products... (at least to some degree) from year to year. The amount of money that they are willing to spend on "informing" their customers as to whats new and what is of real value is phenomenal. Its big business. Its what has made this country great...!
This Large flow of information means that consumers are bombarded day to day by media. Tailored marketing plans meet and greet the average Joe whenever he logs online, flicks on the T.V or turns the radio on. Informing the uninformed as to what they need, want (and didn't know they wanted) or just have to get!! Big business is willing to pay for all this education free! It's Great..... unless you realize that there may just be something else out there that is of a little better quality, a little better of a deal. Then those stores become just convenient, when things are running low and you need a little bit more stock to make it through till the end of the season. You soon realize that the products on the whole are pretty average for the money your paying, and really a dollar saved is a dollar saved!!
What would be really great is if you could get high quality products at direct import prices. Provided by people that use them on a day to day basis with their own Christmas Light installation business. The Guys and Girls at Smart Strands got tired of paying a premium for their lighting supply's, so decided to bring in their own product. Designed to their specifications and requirements. Durability and quality being the core values that they decided to focus on. Minimizing wastage through damage and wear and tear helped to define our focus. Thats where LED's come in!!
LED's come in a range of products that are far superior to the more traditional incandescents. They are more durable from season to season, there is no glass to break, no bulbs that fracture or chip. Meaning less service calls through out the rainy seasons. At Smart Strands we also require that all our light strands come with a minimum of 20 AWG (American Wire Gauge), which again increases durability.
Smart Strands is focused on providing a high quality product, the best possible service and the lowest possible prices that they can. We want to stay focused on these core values as we see them being the key to our growth and success in the future. We aim to provide products that we have used personally and have found to be of a value to us and our customers. Check us out at Smart Strands.com and see what we have to offer!

If your concerned about the environment......
There are a lot of proponents of CFL bulbs out there in the big wide world. Thats a Compact Fluorescent Light for those that havn't yet seen them stacked on shelves at Costco or Home Depot. They were originaly marketet as a way of lighting your home while minimizing your use of energy, and your effect on the environment. There are a couple of problems with that.
CFL Bulbs Have One Hitch: Toxic Mercury by Elizabeth Shogren. That was the first article that can up when I conducted a search on CFL’s and the Environment. To provide a very brief overview of what Elizabeth had to say would be to say that CFL’s contain small amounts of mercury. As the actual light is quite a fragile piece of technology, disposing of this product for the average person becomes a serious challenge. Most people don’t even know that the disposal of these types of lights could be contaminating where they live, landfills, groundwater and the poor guy that actually picks up the trash.
The price on LED’s is falling more every year. Our business is involved primarily with the wholesaling of LED holiday lights to professional installers around the U.S. In the past five years we have seen a growth in sales of LED Christmas lights of over 50% a year. This growth rate has been so high as to leave a lot of wholesalers and distributors caught shorthanded the closer we would get to Christmas. It has also meant that every year over the last five years, the prices for these products have been falling further and further.
From the perspective of the installers who use our products, the installation of LED Christmas lights is substantially easier. The construction of the LED in almost entirely from plastic. This results in a product that is substantially more durable from season to season. Rough handling from installers doesn’t seem to phase this product from working at all. The low energy usage is a great selling point for customers, and is also a bonus for the installer as well. There are no complicated calculations to ensure that the lights will continue to function as designed. You just plug and go!!
For the first time in 130 years, technology and some smart individuals out there have finally managed to reinvent a product that has been integral to our society and our everyday lives. As the world catches on to the exciting developments in this field. Manufacturing processes will speed up, economies of scale with come into play (volume increasing/decreasing price)and world wide production will ramp up. Its only a matter of time before the old incandescent bulbs are sitting next to picture of Thomas Edison in a museum somewhere!!
